Solutions for the astronomical configuration of the Earth have long been used by Earth scientists to better constrain past changes in climate for geological ‘recent’ times. The accuracy and precision of these solutions becomes more uncertain going further back in time. In recent years, interest has been growing to use geological observations to constrain past variations in solar system dynamics. In this talk I will introduce the basic concepts underlying this type of research, and give an overview of the current state of the art.
